Steven was due to come out of contract at the end of this season by which time he would have had the option to leave the club as a restricted free agent.

However, the 2013 best-and-fairest winner told the St Kilda website that there was no chance he was going to depart Seaford and he was thrilled to now be a "Saint for life".

"There was some interest from other teams but I never entertained the thought of leaving the Saints," the 25-year-old said.

"I've got some close friends here and there is a great vibe around the place with some positive things happening and this is the club I want to represent for my entire career.

"I was always going to re-sign, I'm very happy at St Kilda and it was just a matter of my manager and St Kilda just working through the logistics of it all and I'm happy it got done pretty quickly."

St Kilda coach Alan Richardson tweeted that Steven's commitment to the club was "a decision based on faith and integrity".

Steven is the latest player to re-sign with the club following on from the likes of Nick Riewoldt, Jack Billings, Luke Dunstan, Jack Newnes, Eli Templeton, Seb Ross, Tom Curren, and Billy Longer over the past six months.

Since being selected by the Saints with pick No.42 at the 2007 national draft, Steven has become one of their most important and talented midfielders.

To date, he has 90 games and 65 goals under his belt.
