The Queensland Police Service announced three people had been charged in relation to live baiting "using animals such as possums, piglets, rabbits and other animals to enhance the performance of racing greyhounds" in the state.

Earlier this month, Racing Queensland stood down 23 trainers as part of an investigation into the practice.

An Atkinsons Dam man, 41, was charged with seven counts of serious animal cruelty and was scheduled to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on April 6.

A 73-year-old Lowood man was also charged with one count of serious animal cruelty and will appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on April 23.

In addition, a 64-year-old Lowood woman was charged with making a false declaration.

She was scheduled to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on April 8.

"The joint Queensland Police Service and RSPCA Task Force that was established to investigate allegations of animal cruelty in the greyhound racing industry, continues to conduct investigations into the allegations of 'live baiting' and more arrests are expected," the QPS said in a statement.

"To date, five people have been charged with 23 offences including serious animal cruelty and making false declarations."

The live baiting scandal, which was exposed by the ABC's Four Corners program last night, has sent shockwaves through Queensland's racing industry.

A planned greyhound racing track at Logan has been put on hold indefinitely by Queensland Racing Minister Bill Byrne.
