Police allege the pair broke into the Curry Kids Daycare Centre and then gave elderly residents a fright while breaking into numerous units at the St Andrew’s Garden Aged Settlement.
The offenders allegedly damaged doors to get in to the buildings and took money and cigarettes. Cloncurry Police Acting Senior Sergeant Matthew Hows said it was disturbing to see elderly residents caught up in the spree.
“It was distressful to see the elderly members of our community affected by this type of incident,” he said.
Police received information from a community member and executed a search warrant on a Steele Street address. Police located a large sum of money and cigarettes and two juveniles were taken in to custody.
The two boys, both aged 15, attended Cloncurry Magistrates Court on Saturday morning charged with break and enter offences.
They were remanded in custody until their next appearance in Cloncurry on April 10.
“With great support from the community and the local council, we were able to locate the stolen property and apprehend these two juveniles,” Acting Senior Sergeant Hows said.
Police worked with Cloncurry Council on Friday to speak to each individual victim and increased security options are being considered.
Police reminded residents to ensure they locked and secured their homes when they are asleep or away from their homes.
Police also said residents should keep valuables secured and out of general sight, look out for your neighbours, and report any suspicious behaviour to the Police.
“Cloncurry is a safe town and a great place to live,” Acting Senior Sergeant Hows said.
“The Cloncurry Police work hard to ensure these incidents are limited and are solved quickly.”
