Players stepped out for round two fixtures of the Mount Isa Hockey Association at the hockey fields with all clashes played out in high spirits and enthusiasm.
Organisers were impressed with the high quality of play, including a number of passages of team work which led to spectacular goals.
In the under 8s, Hornets defeated T-Birds 2-1 with the winning team’s goals coming from Miah Starr and Riley Simpson. Hornets player Isabella Lambert showed amazing improvement and formed a great defence for her team throughout the match. Rosie Retchford from T-Birds made a great effort in forcing a comeback scoring the only goal for her team. Retchford was supported well by Ari McIntosh and Riley Dwyer. In the other game, Pirates and Aces played out a tough draw with both teams playing their hearts out but neither being able to score a goal. Pirates teammates Dan O’Neil and Carolyn Milligan showed good teamwork while Aces Hugh Crawford and Minke Adendorff maintained a strong defence.
In the under 11s, Pirates proved too strong for Aces winning 8-0. Pirates players Kyle Bartolo and Will Brewster scored the winning goals between them and dominated the game. Brock Phillip from Aces had a tough time in the goal box, but put up a strong fight until the final whistle along with teammates Paige Jackson and Jett Palmer.
In the other game, Hornets appeared to be on a bit of a roller coast ride with their season after losing against T-Birds 4-1. Tom Maslin scored three goals for T-Birds and teammate Anthony Kleinman finished off the win with the last goal. Hornets player Jet Gunningham scored the only goal for his side while Jamaron Mothe and Jessica Payne were the standouts in defence. Shayla Nicolson and Ryan Philp also showed amazing promise and team work for T-Birds.
In the under 15’s, Pirates and Aces played out a 1-1 draw in a very physical game.
Aces players Kyarna Lilligan and Tristan Sloan demonstrated great team work with support of Patrick Brogden, who scored the goal for his team. Pirates players Sophie Milligan and Bailey Cliff showed amazing defence skills while Jack Price managed did well to score the goal for his team. In the other game, Hornets kept a clean sheet in their steady 3-0 win over T-Birds.
