Kmart Mount Isa has pledged bedding for the dormitories at the camp after answering a city-wide call for assistance from Mayor Tony McGrady to restore the camp to its former glory.
Cr McGrady said he was excited that businesses and community groups shared his vision for the Camp.
“The Youth Camp has the potential to be a great recreational asset to North West Queensland,” Cr McGrady said. “The willingness of the community to get behind the project has been exceptional, with the camp well on its way to re-opening.”
Kmart Mount Isa Store Manager, Alysse Winter said it was an easy choice to support the camp project as so many young people in the area would benefit from it reopening.
“The team and I are very pleased to be able to help the community in such a practical way.” Ms Winter said.
Rotary Club of Mount Isa president Karen Kretschmann recently lead a team of 16 volunteers who worked to clean the kitchen, bathrooms and dormitories.
“Everyone got stuck in and worked together to get the camp ready for its first visitors over Easter,”
“Two of our volunteers even re-located frogs from the bathroom to the edge of the damn.” Mrs Kretschmann said.
