Pre-Gregory races at Lake Moondarra have been well supported with individual and teams testing out new boats and team members.
Steve Till, Manager of Alfagomma, has decided to battle the Gregory as a first time paddler this year and has been putting in the hard yards in preparation for the race.
Last weekend’s 15km race saw Steve team up with experienced paddler Chris Bennett allowing him to work on his balance and paddle strokes.
As the backmarkers with a 15 minute handicap, the pair had to work hard to pass the rest of the field and to secure first place.
Other paddlers doing secret training and will be the ones to watch at the Gregory, include Glen Rysanek and the BOSS team consisting of Tav Cameron and Mark Thinee.
The plastic recreational field is one of the largest categories at the Gregory Canoe Marathon and is highly contested.
Plastic crafts have been gaining popularity and with their stability are perfect for anyone to race the Gregory River Canoe Marathon.
Plastic craft are available to hire from Outer Limits Adventure and we encourage anyone who needs a boat to contact Sam Stedman on 0421 484 211.
