A 50-year-old father of two, named by Channel 7 as Bruce Monaghan, died of multiple stab wounds allegedly inflicted by John Francis, the ex-partner of Mr Monaghan's new girlfriend, on Monday night.
Mr Francis, also 50, has been charged with his murder.
The Woodford man has also been charged with the attempted murder of four others after allegedly crashing his ute through the wall of Mr Monaghan's home in the bush-rimmed Chappel Road, about 20 kilometres north-west of Caboolture, while five people, including Mr Monaghan, were inside.
Mr Francis has been remanded in custody on 10 charges stemming from the incident.
Other charges include contravening a domestic violence order and attempted arson.
Mr Monaghan's neighbour Max Podvorac described the father-of-two as "a very, very nice guy" and a "genuine sort of person".
The 50-year-old had lived at the property for approximately a decade, Mr Podvorac said, and ran his metal fabrication business, K.I.S.S Products, from his home.
After divorcing his wife, Mr Monaghan had lived at the property with his eldest son for the past few years, Mr Podvorac said, and the pair was inseparable.
His younger son lived in the outback Queensland town of Roma with his mother, he said.
Many residents of the Woodford area took to the Woodford Community Information Facebook page to mourn Mr Monaghan and express their shock at his death.
"We are devastated to hear of Bruce's passing. He was the kindest and most friendly neighbour. This is terrible," wrote Lea Schodel.
"I'm so sorry to read this Bruce was a beautiful man who would go out of his way for anyone RIP Bruce xxx' Jules Karl Schultz Deecke posted.
"What a lovely, placid gentlemen he was. His son was always polite to me and had big ambitions that would make his Dad proud. A carer for the environment, a kind soul. I will miss his conversations while trimming hair. Find peace," wrote Denise Curry.
Mr Monaghan is believed to have commenced a relationship with Mr Francis' former partner in only the last month.
"I'm devastated I've known Bruce for a long time I've woken too (sic) this, I wished him happy Easter over weekend with his lovely lady by his side, I thought good on you, now, my heart breaks for all involved his beautiful son o.m.g I can't believe this How Why could this happen ???" wrote Mishell Lewis.
Mr Francis appeared briefly in Caboolture Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with Mr Monaghan's murder and the nine associated offences.
He was remanded in custody to reappear on June 12.
His lawyer indicated he intends to fight the charges.
