Sydney Swans star Adam Goodes has put a plea to the public to contact police if they see any of his memorabilia being offered for sale after his mother's home in Ballarat was broken into over the weekend.

The Australian of the Year took to Twitter to ask his followers to spread the word about the robbery and to alert authorities if they see any of his belongings being offered.

Swans officials told Fairfax Media that they understand the burglary was "not targeted" and that thieves took several other items from the home, owned by his mother Lisa Sansbury.
The two-time Brownlow Medallist is famously close to his mother and she accompanied the star utility at some of his biggest individual triumphs - including his first Brownlow Medal triumph in 2003 and his Rising Star win 1999.
She also left her mark on the AFL last season when she designed the Swans' one-off guernsey, worn during the Indigenous Round match against Geelong.
Goodes, 35, has endured a difficult start to his 2015 campaign, widely expected to be his last season in the game. Even close friend and ex-teammate Jude Bolton openly pondered on Sunday whether Goodes should have retired last year, suggesting it "could be a tough year and maybe he has gone on one year too long".
The Swans champion gathered nine disposals in the opening-round win over Essendon and only came on as a substitute - picking up six touches - during the second-round win over Port Adelaide.
