As excitement builds about the club's prospects for the future, small forward Honeychurch was rewarded for his role in the Bulldogs' 19-point win against Richmond on Saturday.
Honeychurch had 18 disposals, six tackles and a goal in the upset win and told the club's website it was good to get some recognition after a tough pre-season. The former No.60 draft pick was also happy with his defensive work.
"I just worked hard on my pressure, that's what I'm in the side for - pressure and tackling and trying to get on the end of a couple of goals," he said.
Honeychurch joins Jake Stringer, Nathan Hrovat, Marcus Bontempelli, Michael Talia, Jack Macrae and Mitch Wallis as other Rising Star nominees at the Western Bulldogs.
The Dogs are preparing for a big clash with Hawthorn on Sunday and Honeychurch said the young side wasn't getting ahead of itself despite the good start to the year.
"The mood's pretty good at the moment. I think it's the first time since '09 we've had a 2-0 start," he said.
"But it should be a pretty tough contest against the reigning premiers this week."
