With last week’s game having little at stake, Warrigals made it two wins on the trot against Euros winning 34-24 in an entertaining affair.
The last time Euros beat Warrigals was back in late February in a close one-point 22-21 win and the second placed side will be looking for a similar result on this occasion.
Warrigals captain Tom Robertson couldn’t be happier with his team’s preparation at training this week with near full attendance.
“We’ve had really good numbers,” Robertson said.
“We have been able to have full team runs this week, which is good.”
Robertson said his team were missing around eight starters last week, who will all go straight into the line-up tomorrow night including scrumhalf Nick Cook and outside centre Luke Crumblin.
A Euros spokesperson said the team will be short up front, but still expects to make a good game.
“We’ve lost about four forwards to a wedding including Noel and Victor Malua,” a Euros spokesperson said.
“Warrigals deserve to be favourites; they’ve played good rugby all year. Even though we’ve got some good players away and some key injuries, we still expect to make a good show of ourselves and go in with the intention of winning.”
Robertson, like in previous weeks, believes the key areas to topple will be in the forwards.
“I’d say probably up front and at the set piece. We’ve got a full front row and that’s a spot we can really take them on,” Robertson said.
The second finals fixture will kick off at 7.30pm on Saturday night at Mount Isa Rugby Park.
Players to watch
Warrigals: Cody Saltmere (fullback).
The evasive fullback has been a major go-to man in terms of putting points on the board for his team this season. Saltmere is capable of creating a linebreak out of nothing, which is one of the reasons why his teammates will be hoping to see him carry the ball as much as possible.
Euros: James George (number eight).
The Euros captain has led his team from the front all season long. Expect to see the number eight shift up a gear in trying to inspire his forward pack in a game of great importance. George will continue to be a handful to tackle for defenders, coupled with a strong presence in and around the ruck.
