John Quinn wakes up most mornings these days to the cries of the lorikeets, galahs and cockatoos that live alongside his new St Ives home on the edge of Sydney's Ku-ring-Gai Chase National Park. Having been told the life he knew had been lost to him, it is this house and the independence it offers that  most symbolises his near-full and internationally documented recovery.
