Dargan recently launched his first official album featuring a song about Mount Isa being a small town with a big heart.
The album was released on March 24, with Dargan featuring on a number of radio stations, promoting his music and rapping a verse about Mount Isa on Triple J.
The rap called Mt. Isa-kite describes Mount Isa as a small town feeling with a big heart, touching on the hard times felt with the drought, last year’s crocodile-eating snake and visiting the Overlander Hotel for a $10 steak.
The Mitakoodi man started recording his music at home and uploaded it as videos to YouTube.
Dargan says he gets random Facebook messages from fans saying they have bought his album.
Dargan said the music on the album showcased his opinions on life from an indigenous male perspective and talked about life in the outback, hardship, succeeding and beating the odds.
“My album is about asking what direction in life you are going,” he said.
“I originally thought it would be just friends and family buying my album but it has got bigger.
“The true roots of hip hop were for the community, about their issues ... and today music is about being rich.
“My music is about the people for the people.”
In one of his songs Dargan raps ‘I’m laying down my path so you can follow too’ as a message to youths that if he can do it, anyone can.
Dargan has worked hard to be where he is now, saving for more than a year just for the chance to professionally record his first album – a 13-track album titled Whichway.
With his first album available online, Dargan says he is producing another album and is looking into having a concert.
