The Courier-Mail reported union bosses, including United Voice chief Gary Bullock, were boasting of how their support helped Labor candidates across the line at the January election.

But Ms Palaszczuk, speaking at the launch of the Premier's Reading Challenge, said her government would consult with all sectors of the community, unions included.

"Everybody, it is no secret, the Labor party was born out of the labour movement and I make no excuse for standing up for workers' rights in this state, I make no excuse for ensuring that workers' conditions at work are safe and secure and I make no excuse for having as my top priority creating jobs in this state," she said.

"So I'm proud to hang my hat on a government that is focused on job creation, safety at work, and making sure that workers' rights are protected.

"And what we saw over the last three years was massive job cuts, massive job cuts under the LNP and that slowed the economy. And my job now is to repair that damage, to kickstart the economy, to grow jobs.

"I consult with a wide range of stakeholders, so when I was first elected, I met with the business community and I met with members of the labour movement. What I want to see in this state, is when the labour movement and the business community work as one. I said I would lead a government of consensus and that is exactly what I intend to do."

Ms Palaszczuk said she was "not worried" about what Mr Bullock told his membership, as he was "standing up for the rights of his membership right across this state".

"I believe we should be working as one," she said.

"The business community, the labour movement, and my government should be working as one to generate jobs in this state."

But the latest Commonwealth State of the States report showed Queensland still had a lot of work to do, sitting at fifth on the rankings.

Queensland did well in the construction work and business investment sectors, but unemployment and poor population growth continued to plague the state's attempts to move forward.

Ms Palaszczuk said there was "more work to do".

But it can't come fast enough for the Opposition.

"It's vital the government outlines its plans to help stimulate confidence, simply praying for jobs and growth isn't enough," shadow treasurer John-Paul Langbroek said, referring to Deputy Premier Jackie Trad's comments last week that she was "praying" for an improvement in the unemployment figures.
