Anzac Day remains unique among Australian gazetted holidays because the Monday does not automatically become a public holiday if April 25 falls on a weekend.

Under the Queensland Holidays Act, the Anzac Day holiday is only carried over to the Monday if April 25 falls on a Sunday.

The 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing falls on a Saturday this year, with only West Australian residents set to turn the commemoration into a long weekend.

The NSW Greens have called for Premier Mike Baird to declare April 27 a public holiday, but the southern state is remaining firm in commemorating the centenary on the centenary date.

So too will Queensland.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt said Anzac Day was about remembrance, not an extra day off.

"Queensland is in line with all the other states and territories besides Western Australia in not observing a public holiday the Monday following Anzac Day this year," he said.

"The last time Anzac Day fell on a Saturday was in 2009 and no public holiday was observed [on the Monday]."

Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland Advocacy Director Nick Behrens said the most important aspect of the day was the recognition of the nation's service men and women and their actions.

"In terms of the business aspect, in the fullness of time it balances itself out," he said.

"This year it happens to fall on a Saturday, in previous years it falls on a weekday and from an employer perspective, [not moving the holiday] provides some respite from the overall wage bill for the year."

Former Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie saw no need to grant an additional public holiday when questioned last year on the matter.

The LNP has not changed its position.

"Anzac Day is a very solemn day for commemorations," Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg said.

And on that, the government and the Opposition agree.
