You could be aiding a group of Anzac Day law breakers.

Hundreds of houses are advertised as open for inspection in Queensland on Saturday, despite the fact real estate agents, like all commercial enterprises, are banned from conducting business due to observance of the national day of remembrance.

Real Estate Institute of Queensland chief executive Antonia Mercorella said while the law prohibiting the sale of property applies each year, the fact Anzac Day fell on a Saturday this year may have caught many agents unaware.

She said many agents advertising open houses may have booked the inspections well in advance without realising the significance of the day.

"The last time Anzac Day fell on a Saturday was in 2009, and in the past 25 years it has only fallen on a Saturday three other times," she said.

"We have reminded our membership that holding an open house, either for the purpose of selling a property or to rent a property, is strictly prohibited."

Ms Mercorella said while a number of open houses were continuing to be advertised throughout the state for Saturday but that she expected these were due to oversight, rather than wilful disregard for the law.

Queensland treasurer and industrial relations minister Curtis Pitt told 612 ABC breakfast host Spencer Howson on Wednesday his department would be monitoring real estate advertising sites to ensure no scheduled house inspections went ahead.

"We will be working with the REIQ to seek voluntary compliance with real estate agents across the state," he said.

"We will be monitoring media and newspapers up to and including Saturday  and if we see advertising for open houses we will respond seeking compliance.

"If needed it will include undertaking inspections on Anzac Day but we don't want it to come to that.

"We are asking Queensland real estate agents to respect the existing law to respect Anzac Day and comply with the law on Saturday."

Under the Trading (Allowable Hours Act) 1990, factories and shops in Queensland are required to close on Anzac Day with some limited exceptions.

Heavy fines can apply to any traders or businesses who flout the law.

The REIQ said offices can open for the sole purpose of leasing related activities such as accepting rental payments.

Ms Mercorella echoed Mr Pitt's confidence that agents across the state would respect the law and cancel the scheduled openings prior to Saturday.

"The REIQ offers a free advice line to the membership and we have been taking about six or seven calls a day for the past two weeks from our members wishing to clarify what activities are allowed," she said.

"Our members are respectful of this important day that is marking its centenary this year and they want to do the right thing."
