Attendees may not be able to see everything but organisers will ensure every word of every tribute is clearly heard.
Mount Isa Councillor Anne Seymour acknowledged the changes to the commemorations this year including the change of venue from George McCoy Park to the Civic Centre front lawn.
“The sound system will be unreal,” she promised.
The Dawn Service begins at 6am at the new Cenotaph on the lawn.
Marchers assemble at the car park at 9am near the Police Station in Isa Street.
At 9.30am they march in Miles Street, Rodeo Drive before finishing at the Cenotaph.
The main service begins at 10am with speakers including Major Jim Nuttall, Father Mick Lowcock and Delta Company commanding officer Major David Hopgood.
Cr Seymour said Anzac Day was important regardless of it being a centenary year.
“We shouldn’t just hammer in one year, Anzac Day is special forever.”
Mount Isa Mayor Tony McGrady said the change of locations from George McCoy Park to the “heart of our city” was symbolic. He said Anzac Day was a “celebration” even if there were some people who might take issue with the phrase.
“We’ve got a lot to celebrate, 100 years ago young men and women went in the field of war,” Cr McGrady said.
“They defended our freedoms we take for granted.”
Cr McGrady “appealed” to the Mount Isa community to attend in large numbers.
“I want to see in Mount Isa people come out in the thousands as they’ve never done before.”
