The service is looking for volunteers who can offer up an hour of their day to help deliver meals to those in need.
Mount Isa Meals on Wheels treasurer Bob Bentley said they have plenty of cooks but are struggling for delivery drivers.
“In two to three months we will be short drivers and delivery people, the kitchen is OK but we really need drivers,” he said.
“Drivers are expected to use their own cars and it is volunteer work.”
Mr Bentley said people eligible for Meals On Wheels no longer need to be referred by a doctor to be eligible but had to be 65 years old and over for non-Indigenous people, 55 years and over for Indigenous, and there are special cases for physically challenged people.
“Some customers have five meals a week while others may get two and extra meals can be delivered on Friday for the weekend,” he said.
Drivers leave about 11am Monday to Friday and are back about noon depending on traffic and the number of deliveries.
Drivers are requested to arrive at 10.30am to go through their delivery.
Meal on Wheels supplies hot meals, frozen meals and salads, which also comes with a piece of fruit and a sweet.
Clients pay $7 a meal after government subsidies.
