The Mount Isa AFL competition returns with two stimulating fixtures to be played following a week’s break due to the Julia Creek Dirt ’n’ Dust festival.
Tigers will face Buffaloes looking to continue their good form off the back of a 62-point win over Lake Nash Young Guns.
The 2014 premiers welcome back two familiar faces in 2014 best and fairest Jason Boydle and Theon Raffaldi.
Although sitting on a win from a Rovers forfeit two weeks ago, Buffaloes will be raring to get their season off to a positive start playing their first real game.
Tigers coach Craig Brice has praised his newly appointed captain Niall Kilcoyne, particularly for the way the Irishman handles himself around the camp.
“He’s really accepting the captain’s role well,” Brice said.
“He’s leading by example at training and been an excellent leader so far. Everyone’s warmed to Niall very easily. He gets a lot out of the players.”
Even at full strength, Brice still expects a sterner test against Buffaloes and will need to improve in some key areas that were lacking against Young Guns.
“We were unhappy with our performance in front of goals with our accuracy so that’s what we’ve been working on,” Brice said.
Young Guns will have a point to prove coming off a heavy defeat when they come up against Rovers, who are yet to show themselves in the competition.
Round 2 draw:
Buffaloes v Tigers at 12.45pm, Young Guns v Rovers at 2.45pm
Ladder:
Tigers 4
Buffs 4
Young Guns 0
Rovers 0
