The challenges included urinating off the Story Bridge, climbing South Bank's Wheel of Brisbane and public drinking dares, Riverside Patrol Group Inspector Joe Jaramazovic confirmed.

He said police had been tipped off by a security guard at South Bank who saw anti-social behaviour.

"The behaviour was linked to a uni prank that was being distributed among to some students," Inspector Jaramazovic said.

"We would really hate for an innocent activity to be misinterpreted by others.

"We've got to remind ourselves, even with with tomorrow's [Anzac Day] events, there will be a heightened level of awareness, including officers with firearms.

"The last thing we need is for a prank to go wrong and have dire consequences."

The ABC reported that University of Queensland students had set up a Facebook page and had completed a "dare night", with participants asked to post photo evidence of their antics.

A UQ spokeswoman said the university did not support silly and dangerous pranks, and wanted students to think of their own safety and consider the broader community.

"The dare night was not an official university event," she said.

Inspector Jaramazovic said several people had been spoken to, although no charges had been laid.

He said pranks which may have gone undetected in the past were harder to get away with due to the increase in security cameras.
