The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo said the initiative was part of a new range of visitor experiences, as tickets to the iconic event go on sale.
Isa Rodeo manager Ms Natalie Flecker said she expected a huge response to the rodeo’s range of new accommodation and touring options, all built around this year’s event being held from Friday to Saturday, August 7 to 9.
“We are introducing a Pop-Up Tent City offering a choice of Standard and Flash Camp Deluxe Tents, and are very excited to be the first Outback Queensland event, with the support of Tourism and Events Queensland, to offer this “glamping” (glamorous camping) option to our guests,” said Ms Flecker.
“We also expect a lot of interest in our limited number of tours of the chutes and main arena.
“These tours will give rodeo-goers exclusive access to areas normally strictly off limits during competition. We think people will be really excited by the opportunity to go behind the scenes to the chutes, or stand in the middle of our huge arena looking out on the crowds.’’
Also new this year is Mount Isa Unearthed (visiting local attractions), Rodeo Experience and Ultimate Rodeo Experience Tours. The Ultimate Rodeo Experience includes a three-day gold seat pass, the Isa Street Party, Mailman Express, Bush Poets Breakfast, Mount Isa Unearthed Tour plus a premium arena and chute tour.
“The chute tour will give you a cowboy’s eye view from behind the chutes and you’ll experience the arena from a rider’s perspective on an arena tour.”
Ms Flecker said chute and arena tours would only be available to rodeo-goers who purchase three-day “Gold” seat passes, which guaranteed a seat in the prime viewing position opposite the chutes for the duration of the three-day event.
