The Raiders have come from behind to win their last two games against Wests Tigers and Souths, emerging as a surprise finals contender with a 4-4 record.

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart declared last year unless he attracted big name talent to the club, "things ain't going to change".

But with half a dozen players named in representative teams for this weekend, the Raiders rebuild is tracking quicker than most expected.

Country representatives Jack Wighton, Paul Vaughan and 18th man Shannon Boyd have gone to another level this year, while skipper Jarrod Croker was finally rewarded with his maiden jersey.

Wests Tigers recruit Blake Austin has been named for City, while back rower Josh Papalii is 19th man for Austraila's Test with New Zealand on Friday night.

After Sunday's win over the Rabbitohs in Cairns, Stuart declared the club "isn't supposed to win big games" and "there's not a lot of respect there for the club, or the players".

Asked if the players felt a desire to prove outside opinion wrong, Nu'uausala said "I feel like every week we do, because no one gives us a chance and thinks we're there to make up the numbers.

"To have that character and come back when no one gave us a chance and didn't think we were going to win, it shows how strong our team is.

"I know we've got a quality team here and the coaching staff is awesome. We've proven the last two weeks we can match it with anyone."

The Raiders' recruits - Nu'uausala, hooker Josh Hodgson, Austin, Sia Soliola - don't have huge profiles but have proven shrewd investments.

"That's the pleasing thing, us new boys are making an impact on this club and we want to build it into a successful one," Nu'uausala said.

"It starts with us, we don't want to come here to get paid and just play."

Wighton's fullback display against Souths attracted rave reviews from Andrew Johns, the immortal declaring he's ready to play State of Origin as soon as this year.

His utility value helps his cause, and Stuart said he and five-eighth Austin had blossomed after being able to settle on one position.

"Jack's ready for anything that's thrown up to him, he's a guy who would handle any type of challenge," Stuart said.

"Whatever is thrown up for Jack he'll take it head on, Joey [Johns] sees what a lot of us see in him.

"I think they're both enjoying their game at the moment because they've both found a home in the one and six jumpers."

"I want to get as many representative players as I possibly can for the club. I've said before I'll bring players in but will also grow our own."

Nu'uausala insisted Vaughan is also ready to play for NSW after an ultra consistent season thus far.

The prop is averaging over 150 metres and 20 tackles a game, and also boasts speed, footwork and agility.

"Vaughany's been outstanding for us with his numbers in attack and defence," Nu'uausala said.

"Last week he hurt his shoulder but it shows how tough he is, hopefully he can get that Blues jersey at some stage this year."
