Fortitude Valley Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Armitt said police would prepare a report for the coroner.
He said police had information to indicate the young woman was dead but were still searching for her body.
They are not treating the death as suspicious.

Police are calling for information from late-night revellers to find 22-year-old Rebecca Mackenzie, who hasn't been seen since she left a Fortitude Valley nightclub early Sunday morning.
Investigators have interviewed friends who were out with the Wynnum West woman on Saturday night and are combing through CCTV footage from clubs and the street.
They want to hear from anyone who might have seen Ms Mackenzie, who was wearing a black top, short black shorts and no shoes, about 1.40-2am between Wickham Street and the Story Bridge.
Ms Mackenzie was out with friends at The Met nightclub in Wickham Street, where social media posts indicate she was celebrating a friend's birthday.
Police think she had an argument with a male friend about 2am before leaving the club and walking toward the Story Bridge.
Family and friends haven't seen her since and she didn't show up for work on Monday morning.
Detective Inspector Steve Hatton said officers hadn't found any incidents that occurred between the nightclub and the bridge at that time.
"The investigation is still ongoing and obviously there's a lot of CCTV footage from night clubs, from other agencies that we are looking but at this stage it's too early for us to make any comment about the CCTV footage," he said.

Police and family are desperately searching for a 22-year-old woman not seen since an argument with a friend in a nightclub early Sunday morning.
It's believed Rebecca Mackenzie was out with friends on Saturday night at Fortitude Valley nightclub The Met, on Wickham Street.
Police think she had an argument with a male friend about 2am before leaving the club.
Family and friends haven't seen her since and she didn't show up for work on Monday morning.
A police spokeswoman wasn't able to confirm reports on social media she had left her purse, phone and shoes in the club.
The 22-year-old is described as Caucasian and about 160 centimetres with a slim build, long brown hair and brown eyes.
She was wearing a black top (as pictured) when she went missing, police say.
