The competition front-runners defeated Inter 1-0, taking last year’s grand final runners-up to outright first place on nine competitions alone.
A first-half goal from Carl Rogers-Page was the difference in a game that was shortened by half an hour in the second half due to a loss of power to the floodlights.
Atlas A player Scott Froud was the standout performer in a game where player-coach Andrew Frahm’s team were rarely unsettled.
“We controlled the majority of the possession,” Frahm said.
“But we just couldn’t finish our chances in the first half.”
Atlas A began the second half the same way as the first with a number of opportunities at goal falling to in-form Rory Page, who couldn’t convert.
However, 15 minutes into the second period, the game was abandoned due to a power outage from a car accident in town.
“The second half is usually where we score most of our goals as our fitness prevails. We were disappointed the game was cut short but our thoughts are with the families of those involved in the car accident.”
In the earlier game, Parkside United A continued their solid form with a 5-3 win over Concordia A in a high-scoring affair.
Last year’s minor premiers scored through a brace each to Pat Taylor and Jordan Hennessy while Josh Filewood notched a single goal.
Josh Elliot put in a man-of-the-match performance for Parkside A regardless of missing out on the scoresheet, according to coach Jae Dawes.
“He had a fantastic first half and was involved in everything we created,” Dawes said.
Dawes described this game as one of two halves after his side let the 2014 champions back into the tie in the second period.
“It was an excellent first half when we were in complete control and should have scored a couple more goals.
“We turned off after half-time and invited Concordia back into the game with an early goal and a penalty opportunity. They showed why they were last year’s premiers with a fighting second half.“We are happy to get the win, but we have work to do for next week.”
