The Opposition used its first motion in the 55th Parliament to try and ensure the Member for Cook's vote would not count in any parliamentary contests.

It moved that instead of each party giving its the parliament its voting intention, before moving on to the cross bench, the order be reversed.

That would mean the Opposition would know which way Mr Gordon intended to vote on a particular issue and if that was to side with the LNP, the party could send one of its members out of the chamber.

Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg called on Labor to support its motion and commit to the same gameplay, saying it was the moral thing to do, given Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk had expressed her wish for Mr Gordon to resign from parliament.

Mr Springborg said if Labor had deemed Mr Gordon not good enough for their party, then they should not be accepting his vote. But Labor refused to alter the standing orders, which the LNP had originally changed during its majority term in government.

Previously, MPs moved to a designated side of the chamber to indicate their vote.

Using the system the LNP instigated to "save time", all 43 Labor MPs voted against the LNP motion, backed by the two Katter Party MPs and Mr Gordon himself, leaving the final vote at 46 to 42.

Speaker Peter Wellington's vote was not needed.

But the preceding debate was one of the most fiery 30 minutes yet seen in the House, surpassing even the confidence motion Ms Palaszczuk moved in the first week of Parliament to test her numbers.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad chipped the LNP for using the word "hypocritical", saying it was not "parliamentary language".

That raised the ire of her Opposition counterpart, John-Paul Langbroek.

"The hypocrisy of the deputy premier's statements are reflected in her, having concerns about using the word hypocrisy, which she has used several before in parliamentary speeches, but now there in government she is concerned about such a word being used," he said.

"So Mr Speaker, this is a hypocritical government."

Treasurer Curtis Pitt said the LNP should be "happy" it had "converted" him into believing its voting system was better.

"The system works," he said.

"There is no need to change it. So they should be very happy that his [former Leader of the House Ray Steven's] powers of persuasion are so strong."

Each side accused the other of attempting a political stunt, but ultimately, having failed to garner the support of the Katter MPs, the LNP motion had no chance.
