Cameron required two stitches to the bridge of his nose after hurling himself into a marking contest with Shannon Hurn early in Greater Western Sydney's clash with West Coast in Perth last week and coming off second-best.

He is unsure if his nose was broken, he said, but the doctor "straightened it up a bit and we'll just move on". Cameron has been declared fit to play against Hawthorn on Saturday at Spotless Stadium in the Giants' first home game of the season and suggested he would not be altering his aggressive style.

"That's the way I play my football," Cameron said.

"Sometimes it's a good way to get into the match, just that bit of body work and running back. Laying tackles gets midfielders into the game as well. The contest is something I really like and enjoy in football. I'll just keep doing those things.

"I like going back with the flight. Sometimes you can get pretty big bumps with that sort of stuff. I think there's a little bit of common sense involved as well. You don't want to go back when you probably shouldn't. You kind of know yourself. But, in saying that, too, it happens in a split second so you've got to weigh it up at the time."

Leon Cameron said the 22-year-old, who was named an All Australian in 2013, was "never going to shirk an issue" but needed to refine his choices based on considering what's going on around him.

"Reckless is probably not the word, I would say he needs to have a better awareness at times," Cameron said.

"He knows that as well. The number one thing is for his safety, but also for the safety of his teammates as well.

"But it's very hard to take that out of a player that's just got eyes for the ball, no matter where it is. You want that because he's a very brave player and he just loves that sort of physicality to his game. At times he needs to have more of an awareness of what's around him."

Hostility will be one ingredient the Giants will need in buckets if they are to contain Hawthorn, who have their own anger management consequences to deal with, having had captain Luke Hodge and Jordan Lewis suspended for three weeks and two weeks, respectively, following the Hawks' spiteful win over North Melbourne last round.

Leon Cameron, formerly an assistant coach at the Hawks, said they would be disappointed to have lost two of their star players, but the club's "enormous depth" would enable Hodge and Lewis to be adequately covered.

"You can talk about depth but then the depth actually knows what to do when they come in," he said. "There's no doubt they'll cover those two players."

The Giants, too, might have a slightly different look on Saturday with Cameron floating the idea of some changes following their 87-point loss to the Eagles. The coach has been talking up Matthew Buntine for some time and mentioned Adam Kennedy, Zac Williams, Jed Lamb and the untested 19-year-old Jack Steele as potential inclusions.

"It's probably time to reward guys from the NEAFL level. There's no doubt there's two or three players that will definitely be considered," he said.

"We need 22 players having one hell of a crack every week. We don't have enough experience or connection or that luxury of saying an individual brilliant effort will get you out of that. It doesn't happen at this footy club.

"When you have players that are down, and down en masse, then you're going to get routed. West Coast did a job on us."
