The 11-month-old girl was thrown from the pram when it rolled down a driveway and into the path of a four-wheel-drive on Pacific Pines Boulevard about 4.30pm.

A Gold Coast University hospital spokeswoman said the girl suffered an injured leg. Paramedics also said she had some cuts to her face.

Emergency services initially reported that the child was a boy.

Police still want to speak to the occupant of the four-wheel-drive, but believe the incident was an accident.

The driver stopped at the scene after but left before police arrived.

A police spokesman said a language barrier may be been a reason for the miscommunication.

The father of the injured child told News Corp his six-year-old daughter may have been pushing the pram and accidently lost control.

"This was just an accident and they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time," he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

He said the family wanted to speak with the driver to understand what happened.
