The AFL career of maligned Richmond forward Tyrone Vickery has again been halted, with the 24-year-old dropped after just one game back in the Tigers' lineup.

Despite being praised by coach Damien Hardwick in the aftermath of the last Saturday's game against Geelong, Vickery has not been included in the team to face North Melbourne in Hobart on Saturday afternoon.

After the Cats clash, Hardwick mooted that the tall trio of Vickery, Jack Riewoldt and Ben Griffiths could play in the same side, but Griffiths' return from a calf injury has come at Vickery's expense.

Griffiths is one of four inclusions for the 2-3 Tigers, with star Brett Deledio back for his first game since round one, having missed one match through suspension and three weeks with a calf complaint.

Hardwick said on Thursday that he backed Deledio to judge his fitness. Nathan Gordon and Dylan Grimes are also back for Richmond, with Corey Ellis out after his first game with a leg injury. Ben Lennon and Sam Lloyd have also been omitted.

The Kangaroos welcome back key defender Lachie Hansen for his first game of the year, while Jarrad Waite has been named after being pulled at the last minute against Hawthorn in round five. Luke McDonald is another to return, with Aaron Black, Kayne Turner and Ben Jacobs dropped.

The feel-good story of the the week is Geelong's call to name forgotten midfielder Josh Cowan for his first senior game in 1384 days. Cowan has been struck down by a run of hamstring and Achilles injuries, but will face Collingwood on Friday night - his first appearance at AFL level since round 18, 2011.

Talls Mitch Clark and Rhys Stanley are also back to face the Magpies, as is Nakia Cockatoo. Dawson Simpson, Josh Walker and George Horlin-Smith have been dropped, while James Kelly could not be considered after rupturing a testicle against the Tigers.

Paul Seedsman (glute) and Jackson Ramsay (shin) will both miss for the Pies, with Corey Gault cut from the team that defeated Carlton last Friday night.

Tony Armstrong - delisted at the end of last season only to be re-drafted as a rookie - was elevated to Collingwood's senior list on Thursday in place of the injured Levi Greenwood - and will play his sixth AFL game for the Magpies. Big-man Jarrod Witts and midfielder Tim Broomhead are also back.

Carlton have named Dale Thomas on the field in their 25-man squad for Sunday's game against the Brisbane Lions. Thomas has not played since dislocating his shoulder in the opening moments of the Blues' round one clash with Richmond. Levi Casboult and Troy Menzel are also set to return, while forward Lachie Henderson will miss with a hamstring injury.

Sydney have opted not to choose between the emerging Isaac Heeney and ageing Adam Goodes, with both named to play Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday night. Instead the Swans have axed Harry Cunningham, Craig Bird and Dean Towers from the team that lost to the Western Bulldogs last Saturday.

Father-son selection Billy Stretch is set to make his debut for the Demons, one of four players included. Former captain Jack Grimes and veteran ruckman Mark Jamar are among four players dropped.

Despite speculation he may not play again this year due to an elbow injury, the league's leading goalkicker Josh Kennedy has been named for West Coast to play Port Adelaide on Sunday.

As expected, veterans Nick Riewoldt and Leigh Montagna will both return for St Kilda against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday. Lin Jong misses for the Dogs with a broken hand, while Matthew Boyd is out with soreness.
