UPDATE: Geelong coach Chris Scott has confirmed forward Mitch Clark was dealing with ongoing mental health issues when he appeared dejected and didn't join in the team song after Friday night's win over Collingwood.

Scott did not want to provide details on Saturday, citing the sensitive nature of Clark's condition, and said no thought had yet been given to whether the key recruit would play against the Swans on Saturday at ANZ Stadium.

Clark booted two goals in the Cats' 41-point win, which has rejuvenated their season.

"It's obviously a sensitive issue. It's really hard for me to speak on Mitch's behalf. He has had a well-documented mental-health issue that, in his words, he is going to have to deal with for his entire life. But the at the moment I am not in a position to elaborate on it," Scott said.

Speaking on Triple M, Scott said Clark's condition had not been sparked by any comments from the Magpies or the crowd at the MCG.

"That is certainly not my understanding that there was anything untoward from the crowd or the opposition," he said.

Scott said it was on ongoing issue.

"As far as I know. I have had some communication with Mitch and that is, obviously, of a private nature but right at the moment ... [that] assessment seems to be pretty accurate," he said.

Asked if Clark would line up against the Swans, Scott replied: "We are not even thinking about that."

Skipper Joel Selwood had his injured hand bandaged following the win but the midfielder suggested afterwards that the swollen right hand was ''fine''.

''It's OK,'' said Selwood, who was signing autographs in the rooms. While the hand was bandaged and officials confirmed it had been swollen, Scott was unable to shed further light on the injury or the extent of it.

"The medical staff say we've got a few issues with players, but they don't go into detail," Scott said. "I hope it's a good sign he [Selwood] played on and played very well .. we'll have to wait and see."

Scott was pleased with Geelong's performance, which was highlighted by the Cats booting 11 of the first 12 goals of the match.

Scott said it was a plus the Cats had won without Jimmy Bartel, James Kelly, Mathew Stokes and Andrew Mackie. "It's a good sign for us, but I'm not getting carried away because a lot of people were happy to tell me a couple of weeks ago that it looked ugly.

"It clicked to an extent, but we're under no illusions. We've got a lot to work on ... we won't be getting carried away with it.''

The Geelong coach said he was ''confident our best is pretty good".

"If you go in with the wrong expectations or too high a level of optimism, the bubble can burst pretty quickly,'' he said, when asked about next week's clash with the Swans. ''Sydney are clearly one of the best teams in the competition and we've got a lot of work to do to get to that level."

Scott said Steve Johnson was ''really effective with the ball'' and good in the contest. ''The impression I'm sensing externally is that Steve has been horrible, that hasn't been our feel internally.''

Cat Josh Cowan was subbed out with an apparent hamstring, which Scott described as ''a minor obstacle he'll overcome.''
