The Ernest Henry Mining Sprint Distance Triathlon will run from May 15 to 16, and includes a junior race on Friday followed by a senior race on Saturday.
For the junior event, competitors will meet at Cloncurry Pool at 4pm for a 5pm start with presentations to follow back at the pool.
There will be age categories for 4-6 years (10m swim, 500m ride, 100m run), 7-9 years (50m swim, 3km ride, 500m), and 10-14 years (150m swim, 5km ride, 1km run).
Seniors (500m swim, 20km ride, 5km run) must meet at Cloncurry Police Citizens Youth Club at 6am for transport to the dam for a 7am start.
ROAD CLOSURES NOTICE
Between 7am and 11am on May 16 the following road closures will apply.
The Chinaman Creek Dam Road will be closed to all traffic.
The Barkly Highway will be intermittently closed to allow the flow of competitors, under police control, at the intersections with the Burke Development Road and the Chinaman Creek Dam Road.
Traffic controllers will be in position to regulate the movement of vehicular traffic, and to allow the safe passage of competitors, between 7.15am and 9.15am at:
Burke Development Road / Cudeco Road , Burke Development Road / Hensley Dve, Butchers Creek Bridge (Burke Development Road ), Burke Development Road / Fort Constantine Road , Burke Development Road turnaround point (approximately 7.5 km from the Barkly Highway intersection).
Police are not expecting large numbers of competitors, and disruptions, if any, should be minimal to vehicular traffic.
Police would request all motorists to exercise extra caution if travelling through these intersections or near any competitors.
