Show number two of the Mount Isa Theatrical Society’s Diamond Jubilee is 80’s Aussie classic The Gazebo.
The production, written by Bill Gleeson was performed 10 years ago by the theatre and they could not be happier to be revisiting this performance with one of the original cast member (Tyne James) reprising her role.
Welcomed to the North Shore of Sydney in the late 1980s, Peta (Alicia Reay) and Kim (Liviana Wisniewski) are the perennial hosts of the neighbourhood who enjoy the company of their friends; drinking champagne and serving the unusual sausages that Sheila (Bec Brock) continues to inflict upon the group.
New neighbours Phil and Midge (Tom Hall and Tyne James) throw a spanner in the works, when the tight-knit group are forced to deal with how unaccepting the couple are of anything that they deem to be ‘‘different’’.
Their attitudes unfurl a chain of events within the group of twelve that takes them on a journey of reflection, strength, self-discovery, realisation and finally acceptance.
Director Maile Thow said fine-tuning of the performance is in full swing.
“Rehearsals well under way and the set looking more like a suburban back yard each week, both cast and crew are excited to see the audience’s reaction to the dramatic script and its topics,” she said.
A photo corner has also been introduced to encourage our patrons to partake in the theatrics and fun of the night” said Mount Isa Theatrical Society publicity officer Fiona Watt.
The production will run Friday and Saturday 22nd May- 14th June. Tickets are available from Impulse Lingerie, 13 West Street for $40 per ticket including 2 course meal. Groups of 8+ $35 a ticket (Cash only).
