The man was a passenger in a car that veered off the road and hit a power pole on Mary Street in Blackstone, about six kilometres east of Ipswich city centre, about 8pm.
The passenger was trapped by the legs in the wreckage and had to be freed by emergency services.
The driver, a 26-year-old man, freed himself from the wreckage.
Queensland Ambulance Service said he suffered a seatbelt and airbag injury.
Both men were taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital, the passenger in a serious condition and the driver in a stable condition.
The Forensic Crash Unit will examine if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Earlier in the night, a truck driver was trapped by the legs when his vehicle went over an embankment near Townsville about 7.30pm.
He had to be airlifted to Townsville Hospital for treatment to a collapsed lung and suspected leg fracture, after emergency services freed him from the truck.
He was transported in a stable condition.
