MOUNT ISA POOL ASSOCIATION SEASON 2015
Round 11, 17th May 2015
IRISH CLUB 303S 14 (Ben Robins 2; Jye Graham 2; AJ Saunders 2; John Tuimauga 2) DEFEATED IRISH CLUB OUTLAWS 3
Irish Club 303s remain undefeated in the Mount Isa Pool Association after bumping off arch-rivals Irish Club Outlaws 14-3.
The final match of the day supposedly had the two best sides in the league before this round, the top-placed Irish Club 303s and the second-ranked Irish Club Outlaws.
But in a massive show of force, the 303s put even more space between themselves and the rest. The Outlaws were never in the game, being behind 8-1 at one point, and must refocus as they now slip to fourth place.
BUFFALO BILLS 10 (Tafu Efu 2; Sam Jakk 1) DEFEATED CLUB HUSTLERS 7 (Steve Healy 2; Eggy Eggmolesse 2)
The Buffalo Bills were riding high towards the top of the table, but the Club Hustlers have a knack of keeping games close.
The Bills looked likely to win early getting out to an impressive 4-1 lead courtesy of Sam Jakk and Tafu Efu, but the Hustlers came back incredibly well.
The Hustlers took five of the next six frames as Steve Healy and Eggy Eggmolesse took charge, taking two singles matches each for a 6-5 lead.
Bills player Ziggy Grubczynski then took his team on his back with two exceptional shots for a singles and doubles wins.
On the other side, Garth Apps potted out well to have the scores level at 7-7 for Hustlers.
In a tense final frame, John Houng and Walter Whippy prevailed resulting in the Bills’ fourth win in a row.
OVERLANDER NEW STARS 10 (Neil Ning 2) DEFEATED BARKLY MISCUES 7 (Darrell Walford 2; Bill Heggan 1)
Two of the luckless sides in the league also played out a thriller at the Overlander Hotel with the home-team notching its first win of the season in the final frame of the day.
The Miscues went in as slight favourites, and took a 4-2 lead into halftime thanks largely to Darrell Walford and Bill Heggan.
But it was New Stars turn next taking the next four frames for a 6-4 lead following the good work of Neil Ning and Jess Ward.
The Miscues responded with the next three frames to get their noses in front 7-6, but the New Stars rumbled back through Ward and captain Scott Megarrity to take an inspiring win.
BOWLING ALLEY CPR 10 (Adam Murr 2; Lester Armstrong 2) DEFEATED CLUB DEMONS 7 (Wes Purcell 2)
The Bowling Alley CPR has been a bit off their game, recently sinking down to seventh place on the ladder, while the Club Demons have been even further off with no wins in their last five matches.
The Demons, who seemed more prepared than the CPR, pushed their opponents all the way but fell short in the end.
Taking a handy 2-0 lead at first, the Demons then conceded the next five frames with good CPR wins to Adam Murr and Lester Armstrong.
Demons captain Wes Purcell tried to lead a spirited comeback with Gary Powe and Christina Hinds levelling the scores at 6-6 but weren’t able to secure their second win of the year.
BUFFS JMI 11 (James Ghee 2; Andy Allen 2) DEFEATED BOWLING ALLEY BANDITS 6 (John Lynton 2)
Buffs JMI players James Ghee and Andy Allen helped claim second spot on the leaderboard for their team with a solid 11-6 win against the Bowling Alley Bandits.
The JMI are clicking again as they turn the corner to the second half of the draw although they were pushed to doubles by the Bandits, who were led strongly by captain John Lynton.
