As last year, Ken Crichton has been engaged as Tournament Medical Officer, with access to video monitors which allow the former North Sydney and Manly physician to review possible head knocks. As well, this year chief medical officer Dr Paul Bloomfield will assist him to ensure there are no unchecked incidents on the game's biggest stage.

The initiative will be implemented as Ryan Hoffman insisted he has been given the all-clear despite being concussed twice in the past month, although the Warriors forward may sit out some of the early Blues contact sessions at Camp Coffs.

"After the successful introduction of the Tournament Medical Officer for the 2014 ... series, we implement the same system again this year," NRL head of football Todd Greenberg said.

"Leading sports physician Dr Ken Crichton will again assume the role as TMO, assisted by NRL Chief Medical Officer Dr Paul Bloomfield."

The two would meet both teams before the series to "brief them on the medical rules and procedures".

"They will also be at each match to provide direct advice as necessary during the game," Greenberg said.

"This year will also see the return of the Injury Surveillance Monitors to provide the Blues and Maroons team doctors and trainers with direct access to replays from the host broadcaster, which they can use to assist in identifying and assessing injuries."

Hoffman lasted just three minutes in the Warriors' win over Parramatta before being replaced under the game's concussion protocols. The 31-year-old also had to be assisted from the field just a few weeks earlier after he was knocked out by Titans forward Greg Bird.

"It is worrying but I have confidence and faith in what the NRL have brought in and also the club doctors," Hoffman said.

"I've got no problems leaving my health in the club doctor and NSW doctor's hands. I've been completely honest with him, if there was something concerning me I would have said something. But I don't have any carry-over symptoms. The doc checked me after the game, they checked me the next morning, they checked me yesterday and again today. I've been through exhaustive testing and I have no symptoms.

"The rules and regulations the NRL has in place are for our protection and it's a step in the right direction. It's for our wellbeing and it's also for the players to be honest with those medical practitioners."

Hoffman said the Warriors doctor, after going through a series of tests and screenings, said he would be fit to represent the club this weekend had he not been selected for the Blues.

"It's a contact sport and there are these concerns," Hoffman said.

"You can only applaud what the NRL [are doing]. Going back five or six years ago, I might have gone back on the field. But now they have these things in place and we're getting looked after. I may not have been right to play again [previously] but the system works in keeping me off the field."
