The opposition has echoed calls from Queensland's police union for a review of the force's pursuit policy after two officers were stood down over a Gold Coast chase.
The calls come after Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller on Monday morning ruled out changing the protocol.
"The current policy minimises the risk of innocent Queenslanders being injured or killed inadvertently while giving police the ability to commence a pursuit in urgent circumstances," she said.
On Monday afternoon Shadow Police Minister Jarrod Bleijie said the government's stance was "unacceptable" and called on Labor to consult with the union and investigate the policy.
"I have a fear now that police will not pursue any criminals in Queensland for fear of disciplinary action being taken against them like we've seen with the two officers stood down," he said.
"I think this is actually a disastrous situation where men and women in their cars, on their motorbikes, don't seem to have the support from the upper echelons of the police service, also they don't seem to have the support from the police minister."
Senior Sergeant Chris Hurley and his partner Senior Constable Barry Wellington were stood down from the South Eastern Queensland region on Thursday.
The officers are subject to a disciplinary investigation to determine whether they drove a police vehicle dangerously during a pursuit.
Senior Sergeant Hurley was cleared of manslaughter and assault charges over the 2004 death in custody of Palm Island man Cameron Doomadgee.
Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers said the suspension was a "disgrace" and renewed call for the policy to be reviewed.
The police pursuit guidelines, which severely restrict when police can chase a criminal in a vehicle, were introduced in 2011 following a coronial inquest into several chase-related deaths. An evade police offence was introduced at the same time.
Ms Miller questioned why Mr Bleijie didn't make his concerns about the policy known when former LNP Police Minister Jack Dempsey ordered a review.
But Mr Bleijie defended suggestions the LNP should have taken the chance to change the policy when it was in power.
"Obviously now having been put in place for a few years now by the police commissioner it's time that these things be looked at," he said.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman declined to respond to Mr Leavers' comments. She said police would continue to catch offenders who evaded interception but pursuits would not be the main tactic.
In a statement, she said the Ethical Standards Command and the QPS Pursuit Policy Review Steering Committee both reviewed the policy in 2013.
"The Queensland Police Service stance on pursuits is that the loss of an innocent life is simply too high a price to expedite the early apprehension of offenders when there are safer alternatives," she said.
"It should be noted that there have been no deaths recorded from a police pursuit in Queensland since 2009."
