Queensland motorists were being treated like "cash cows", the state's opposition said, as car registration fees were set to rise at twice the level of inflation.

Registration for four-cylinder cars was set to increase from $328.90 to $340.40, with six-cylinder cars going up from $492.30 to $509.50 from July 1.
Opposition transport spokesman Scott Emerson, who was the minister in charge of the portfolio in the Newman government, said the rego fee increase would make Queensland Australia's most expensive state in which to own a car.
"This comes as no surprise that Labor wants to slug motorists," he said.
"It is a return to the bad old days under Labor when car registrations went up 30 per cent in their last four years in office.
"That was when Annastacia Palaszczuk was transport minister. Now that she is Premier, she wants to start slugging motorists again and using them as cash cows."
Under the past Liberal National Party government, Mr Emerson said, registration fees were frozen for three years.
"I don't believe Queensland voted for massive hikes in registration fees," he said.
Transport Minister Jackie Trad said the additional income was needed to build and maintain Queensland's roads.
"No political party went to the last election promising a freeze on registration costs and registration prices in Queensland," she said.
"What we do ensure is that registration fees are pegged to the GIP (Government Indexation Policy) so they are in step with wage and prices increases and not beyond that."
