You could have easily joked about Chris Judd happily and willingly giving up his Carlton jumper after the Blues suffered another inglorious defeat on Friday night, but his guernsey swap with his Geelong opponent had footy fans celebrating an unexpected moment in the modern game.

Geelong midfielder Cameron Guthrie, sensing a rare moment in what is certain to be the Carlton veteran's final season in the AFL, asked Judd to trade jumpers after Geelong's 77-point destruction of the Blues.

It turns out the two-time Brownlow winner was one of the players Guthrie greatly admired while growing up and his unconventional request to secure some memorabilia, of sorts, had been some time in the planning.

For this part, Judd could see no real reason why he wouldn't agree with Guthrie's small request.

There was a minor hiccup, however, as they had to overcome a modern footy reality: the GPS device, Guthrie later saying 'we were out there for a while fiddling around with that'.

Given Carlton's current plight, Judd had the presence of mind to not give wags on social media any more ammunition by putting on the Geelong hoops. Simply, he slung the guernsey over his shoulder and left the field with his despondent teammates.
