Another game, another couple of firsts for Greater Western Sydney.

This time it was Adelaide who fell into the Giants' trap. The visitors were hardly given a sniff by an exciting young side that cruised to a four-goal win and is looking increasingly finals bound.

GWS had never beaten Adelaide. In fact, they had lost all five previous meetings by an average margin of 87 points. And, following wins over Hawthorn and Carlton in the past two rounds, Saturday's win marked the first time the Giants had strung together three wins.

"When you're sitting at eight rounds six and two, yeah, you'd take it any day of the week," coach Leon Cameron said. "We acknowledge we're playing some good footy, we've played some good opposition and we're starting to believe that we can compete against most sides."

It was a stylish win, too, in front of 9481 fans, set up with a remarkable five-goal 34-0 start. Adelaide pulled the deficit back to 19 points at quarter-time and grabbed the first two goals of a tight second term to get back to within five points, during which GWS forward Jeremy Cameron was reported after a heavy collision with Kyle Cheney.

But the Giants regained the ascendancy to lead 8.7.55 to 5.5.35 at half-time and blew the game open in the third quarter, kicking the last five of the term to burst out to a game-high 46-point lead. It was a doubly bad period for the Crows, with Sam Kerridge substituted after twisting his right ankle early in the term and Rory Laird carried off concussed.

The Crows resiliently won the final period but the Giants had already done the damage.

"We showed something in the last quarter but GWS may have put the cue in the rack then," Adelaide coach Phil Walsh said. "At least it was something for our fans, those who hadn't turned off the tele back in Adelaide.

"It was a very disappointing performance. In saying that, I don't want to take anything away from GWS. They played really well. Leon's got them playing a strong brand of footy and we were unable to match them today."

Walsh said the Giants were too fast, pointing to a lowly tackle count of just 41.

"Their speed and surge, we couldn't slow it down," he said.

Cam McCarthy kicked four goals, Toby Greene three and Cameron two, among 10 goalscorers for the Giants. But the foundation was laid by a dominating midfield, headed by Ryan Griffen, Tom Scully and Callan Ward, as well as Adam Treloar and Dylan Shiel, who topped the disposals with 35 and 34, respectively. Devon Smith had 27 disposals, 10 tackles and kicked a goal.

Patrick Dangerfield was the top possession gatherer for the Crows with 27. Taylor Walker kicked four goals, Eddie Betts three and Josh Jenkins two.

Coach Cameron said he was disappointed with the team's drop-off late in the match but pleased with his side's workrate for the majority of the game.

"They're competitors," he said. "They're starting to build a really good base in terms of resilience and being able to stay in the match.

"We've still got a way to go. At some times throughout the match we lost control of a couple of things, whether it be stoppages, whether it be inside 50s, poor choices, whether it be our goalkicking - we lost control and Adelaide pounced on that.

"But one thing's for sure, this time two years ago, when we did lose control then their heads would hang and it was tough for them to get back up. But now it's one of those traits they're starting to build and believe, that they're still in any game."
