The news is a yet another blow to long-suffering Eels fans, who are still coming to terms with the fact the team have consistently overspent their salary cap, yet are favourites to earn what would be their third wooden spoon in four seasons.

Radradra may be known as the "Semi Trailer", but he won't be allowed to drive one, or any other vehicle, until the matter is resolved. The Fijian flyer is due to be sentenced in Parramatta Local Court next month after pleading guilty to charges of driving a motor vehicle while his licence was suspended, using an unregistered class A vehicle on the road, and using an uninsured vehicle.

It is understood the big winger thought his Fijian driver's licence would suffice. He is now in the process of getting an Australian one.

Radradra, who has scored 29 tries in 35 games with the Eels, has been a rare bright spot in a dark time for the club. However, the 22-year-old has had to find alternative means to get to training in recent times.

The Eels have not had much joy lately when it comes to cars. Chris Sandow crashed a Holden he was test-driving on the day of the Eels' loss to Melbourne.

From coast to coast

The Gold Coast came within a whisker of becoming the first Queensland-based club to shift a home game to Sydney.

Sin Bin can reveal Titans officials approached ANZ Stadium about the prospect of taking a recent home game to the Olympic venue due to the exorbitant hiring costs at Cbus Super Stadium. So prohibitive are the fees – reportedly up to $2 million a season – that the club is in danger of incurring a loss every time the gates are opened.

However, ANZ Stadium is prepared to guarantee clubs a six-figure sum regardless of the attendance figures or food and beverage sales.

The Titans viewed ANZ Stadium as a last resort, knowing they would squander any home-ground advantage. In the end they remained at Cbus, although whether they stay put will hinge on the outcome of negotiations with the various stakeholders, including Queensland Stadiums.

Titans chief executive Graham Annesley would not comment on the renegotiation of hiring fees but said the club had every intention of remaining in its heartland.

Flying the coup

Much has been made of the brewing rebellion against the NRL after Fairfax Media revealed details of the secret meeting between selected clubs at the offices of KPMG in Sydney.

While there have even been comparisons to a Super League-style coup, it will be no mean feat to topple the ARLC. A closer look at the constitution – which was drafted to ensure said coup never eventuates – suggests it would take 17 of 18 stakeholders, comprised of the 16 clubs, the NSWRL and the QRL, to vote in unison in order to effect constitutional change.

The fine print also states the NSWRL and QRL must be amongst the parties in agreement, meaning the one permitted rogue vote can only come from clubland.

Given the enmity between some of the clubs, it would be a minor miracle if they all agreed on any single matter. Which makes the decision to exclude four of them – Wests Tigers, Newcastle, Gold Coast and St George Illawarra – from the meeting even more questionable. There was an agreement that all 16 will be invited to the table next time around.

The clubs have the power to remove a commissioner with a lower majority, but even then the process is complex. The ARLC is made up of 26 members: the eight commissioners, the 16 clubs and the two state leagues. To oust a director, they would need either 14 of the 26 votes or 10 of the 16 clubs to join forces, plus the NSWRL and QRL. Even if they did so, the replacement would be decided by the remaining commissioners.

Agents of shield

If NSW clinch the Origin shield in game two, they will again have to wait until after game three in Queensland to get their hands on it. Protocol dictates that the winners are not officially awarded the spoils until the final game, which resulted in the Blues lifting the shield last year after a 32-8 shellacking at Suncorp Stadium.

If NSW again win the first two games and then lose the third, it could lead to an anticlimactic presentation ceremony.

Oldies but goodies

Paul Gallen, Luke Lewis, Anthony Watmough and Greg Bird may not be there, but the NSW side is not the youngest ever fielded. In fact, it is slightly more experienced than the one the Blues fielded in game three of 2013 – by an average of three days (the current average is 26 years and 73 days) and one additional Origin game (the current total is 105).

Heaven or Hull

Frustrated that his dream of owning an NRL club is not coming to fruition, British billionaire Marwan Koukash is instead turning his attention to buying an English soccer team. We're told the Salford Reds owner is keen to purchase Hull City, who are on the brink of relegation from the Premier League.

The club was put on the market by owner Assem Allam and Koukash is said to be interested in acquiring it and KC Stadium, the home of the club and also Hull in the Super League.

Given some of the dramas with private ownership in the NRL, the governing body will want to ensure the next club owner is in for the long haul.
