The pair enjoyed one of the final Brisbane performances of the acrobatic extravaganza, which has been playing in the Big Top at North Shore Hamilton.
Depp and Heard went backstage twice, spending 20 minutes during intermission chatting with cast members, and another 30 minutes after the show.
They posed for pictures and swapped stories with the 46 cast members.
Both Depp and Heard said they were left speechless by the performance, and mesmerised by the physicality and passion of the acrobats and performers.
Totem wraps up its Brisbane season on Sunday after sell out crowds. The show tracks the evolution of humanity from the primordial swamp to futuristic space exploration.
Depp is currently living on the Gold Coast while filming Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
