Station general manager Jay Walkerden said he was "shocked and disappointed" by the news of the charges.

"Ashley has sincerely apologised for his behaviour. He understands that his behaviour was wrong and potentially put others at risk," Mr Walkerden said.

"We take this matter very seriously and accordingly have immediately suspended Ashley from the station. This matter is now before the courts."

A statement released by the station said Mr Bradnam had faced a similar charge in 2009 and rejoined Nova after "a period of rehabilitation".
