Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge's comments ridiculing the sending off of ruckman Will Minson are the subject of a please explain memo issued by AFL Victoria to Footscray general manager Ben Graham.

Beveridge made inflammatory statements on Sunday evening about the report and ejection of Bulldogs ruckman Will Minson for making contact with an umpire during Footscray's VFL clash with North Ballarat on Sunday afternoon.

Beveridge, who attended the game at Whitten Oval prior to heading to the MCG for the Dogs' AFL match against Melbourne, labelled the sending off "laughable," and suggested there would be something "drastically wrong" if the report was not thrown out immediately.

"It would stagger me if anything happened in regards to it," Beverage said after the game on Sunday night.

"Over the course of my career I patted umpires on the back, I talked to them with my hand on their shoulder."

"There's always a rapport between players and umpires and I think this one just took it the wrong way."

The club's president Peter Gordon followed Beveridge in brushing off the charge.

"I think I've pushed peas to the side of my plate harder than Will Minson did any pushing yesterday," Gordon told Triple M on Monday morning.

"We'll hopefully get the right result."

AFL Victoria refused to bow to calls to throw out the charge against out-of-favour ruckman Minson, and a tribunal case will proceed on Tuesday night at Visy Park.

Minson is not the first AFL player this year to encounter trouble after making contact with an umpire in a state league. Port Adelaide's Andrew Moore was suspended for three games after pushing an umpire during an SANFL match in April. Port's subsequent appeal against the ban was thrown out, despite   SANFL tribunal accepting that Moore was only intending to show the umpire what had occurred to him in an earlier marking contest.
