A 12-storey hotel, nightclub and beer garden could be built next to Red Hill's historic Normanby Hotel if the proposal is approved by the Brisbane City Council.

It is the second time developers LMRM Pty Ltd have submitted plans to the council for a major venue at 17 Musgrave Road.
Last year, Brisbane City Council planning officers told the developers the proposal was unlikely to be approved because of its "excessive height, bulk and scale".
At least two neighbours have lodged formal objections, complaining that late night noise from the premises will disturb residents in nearby streets.
Crowds flock to the Normanby Hotel when nearby Suncorp Stadium hosts events, but the pub is busiest on Sunday afternoons.
The new hotel will feature a basement nightclub, beer garden and gaming venue, and function rooms.
"The proposal would enhance local character by replacing views to an unsightly carpark and storage area with views to an engaging streetscape, active ground plane, and iconic tower," a design assessor hired by LMRM said in a report.
"Whilst the existing hotel is an identifiable land mark at a very local scale, the remaining local context is severely lacking in identity and structure."
Local residents received letters this week informing them that public feedback on the proposed design will close next month.
Even if the proposal fails local planning regulations, the hotel could still receive approval from the Brisbane City Council because Queensland planning laws allow exemptions to be made.
