Mount Isa Family Support Service and Neighbourhood Centre Inc is asking members of the community to show their support for the organisation so it can receive additional funding to keep it in Mount Isa. Recently the organisation has moved buildings andis now based on the corner of Marian Street and Butler Street in a much bigger facility to better help those in need.
Mount Isa Family Support Service and Neighbourhood Centre Inc manager Chris Connors said it is asking for letters of support to help its appeal for more funding to sustain the current administration cost of running the building, including rates and electricity.
“In the old building it was manageable but in the new building it isn’t,” she said.
“Funding would be used for a second full-time employee, gardener, cleaner, rates and electricity.
“We are just asking for our regular funding to be increased so we can keep going.’’
Seventy-five per cent of clients that use the service are Aboriginal women.
It helps with emergency relief, teaching parents positive play, services for homeless people, play groups and more.
Ms Connors said it is hoping to have a community garden at its new building and is always looking for new ways to help those in need in Mount Isa.
