Bowling Alley CPR upstaged their brother side, Bandits, in the biggest talking point of round 12 in the Mount Isa Pool Association.
Both sides came into the match scraping at the top-four places and the Bandits were on fire early, taking a 4-1 advantage. Rob Peni, returning to the side, along with an in-form Kingsley Ang Ya Sen stopped the CPR in their tracks.
Despite the next few frames being split, the Bandits still held a commanding lead at 7-4 and needed only one frame for victory.
The CPR responded with force, clearing the page with the final four frames to win by one.
In a pure team effort, the CPR will have confidence next week heading into the tie with the Club Hustlers, who are catching fire in the competition.
CLUB HUSTLERS 14 (Garth Apps 2; Steve Healy 2; Mitch Thompson 2; Eggy Eggmolesse 1; Greg Payne 1) DEFEATED BARKLY MISCUES 3 (Bill Heggan2)
The Club Hustlers faced an undermanned Barkly Miscues side at the Barkly Hotel, and as expected looked shaky.
Miscues players Graeme Ray and Bill Heggan took advantage of some Hustler mistakes for a 2-0 lead, but that would be all to see from this match.
The Hustlers lost one more frame for the rest of the afternoon with good play from all players in their side.
Heggan was the beneficiary of good fortune for the Miscues, claiming both single wins by default.
BARKLY STR8 SHOOTERS 12 (Mick Ah Sam 2; Mosaati Vaipulu 2) DEFEATED CLUB DEMONS 5 (Darryl Kearney 2)
At the Shark Bar, the Barkly Str8 Shooters closed out a good victory against the Club Demons, who, despite their resiliency, still somehow manage to come up short despite getting closer to a rare victory.
That being said, the Str8 Shooters were down on troops but Mick Ah Sam and Mosaati Vaipulu stood up in their absence.
The pair rebounded well with the Demons at one point being 6-4 ahead.
IRISH CLUB OUTLAWS 11 DEFEATED BUFFALO BILLS 6
IRISH CLUB 303s 14 (Jye Graham 2; AJ Saunders 2; Shaye Graham 2; Dan Flanigan 2) DEFEATED BUFFS JMI 3 James Ghee 2)
The remaining games of the round saw the two Irish Club sides – the 303s and the Outlaws – take solid victories over the two Buffs sides, the JMI and the Buffalo Bills respectively.
The 303s’ win sees them shoot out to a whopping 25-point lead at the top of the table and, despite a bye next week, look to have claimed their first minor premiership.
