Derek Collinson scored a game-high of 17 points to clinch a 34-30 win for Red Backs B grade against Suds In The Bucket in round 14 of the Mount Isa Basketball Association.
Red Backs began the game well with Troy Lane (4 pts) and Myles Turnham (6 pts) pairing up to help take the team to a great first quarter lead.
SITB were only able to put one point on the board in the same period through Graham MacRae (12 pts).
SITB clawed back some points in the second quarter with Aaron Wilhelmsen and Leandro Koppe each scoring eight points.
Red Backs player Kris Greenhalgh dropped in a two-pointer and a three-pointer early in the second half, while teammate Kuda Tagwi also scored two points for the team.
●Ballers fought hard against Celtics B to take a narrow 30-25 win. The score was even at the end of the first quarter with Ballers player Jomari Caseres (10 pts) dropping in two commendable three-pointers.
However, Celtics’ Lloyd Isaacson (7 pts) and Bradley Coonan (8 pts) paired up to even the scores. The second quarter saw Ballers edge out in front with Jay Santos dropping in eight of his outstanding 15-point total.
In the second half Celtics’ Peter Baker (2 pts) and Jeffrey Barnwell (6 pts) clawed back some of the lead held by Ballers.
But Ballers continued to clock points on the board through Laban Ibardolaza (2 pts), while Christian Camba dropped in a beautiful three-pointer.
Phantoms started their game strongly and were never in doubt for an easy 54-30 win over North West Crane Hire.
Phantoms’ Joel Glasscock (5 pts), Brodie Johnstone (4 pts), and Jerome Sopoaga (15 pts) teamed up to put their team in a great position.
North West Crane Hire’s Roderick Sapinosa (11 pts) and Merv Kupfer (10 pts) played a great game, but Phantoms held an unassailable half-time lead.
Mark Bellamy of NWCH played a strong defensive game, but unfortunately got fouled out of the game.
The second half saw Phantoms continue their domination of the game as Leiani and Kruzan Tautiepa paired up to score a combined 22 points for the team with Mathew Walker and Ryan Spear each scoring four points for the team. NWCH’s Jayem Sapinosa and Shilo Parker also added a combined eight points.
In the other B grade game, Manila earned a win over Pandamonium B due to forfeit.
A grade
●Celtics player Matthew Taylor scored an outstanding 14 points for his team in its 37-25 win over Home Boiz.
Celtics took the lead in the first quarter with Lloyd Isaacson (2pts) putting in some of the early points.
Home Boiz’s Paul Scarsi was in great form dropping in 13 points and was all over the court both offensively and defensively.
Celtics’s Brad Coonan (7 pts) and Reece Cooper (6 pts) scored 13 points for the team, while Home Boiz’s Warren King and Ashley Williamson also paired up to add a further 12 points for their team. ●Pandamonium A continued their great form in the lead-up to the finals with a 53-25 win over Blazers. Michael Dombroski (9pts) and Matthew Dewar (11 pts) paired up to help take the team to an early first-quarter lead.
Blazers Joshua Caldwell played an outstanding first half and dropped in 12 points for the team while teammates Jamie Soapi (9pts) and Jade Geary (2 pts) also added an 11 points.
Panda continued their domination in the second half with Simon Ishmael and Zachary Bell both scoring double figures for the night.
Justin Kenneds and Samuel Dudley also added a combined nine points for Pandas, while Blazers players Scott Amor had a big second term scoring eight points along with John Dempsey (2 pts).
