Regional projects will be boosted by a $200 million infrastructure “bonanza” labelled Building Our Regions by the Palaszczuk Government infrastructure bonanza across the next two years into regional projects.
State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said the initiative supporting about 600 jobs across the state.
The Building our Regions program would fund critical infrastructure, including airports, transport and road projects, flood mitigation projects like levees and drainage works , and community infrastructure such as water, waste water and sewerage projects.
The Building Our Regions program is comprised of four focussed funds with councils able to apply for up to $5 million.
- Regional Capital Fund ($70 million over two years)
- Royalties for Resource Producing Communities Fund ($55 million over two years)
- Remote Communities Infrastructure Fund ($15 million over two years)
- Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS) ($60 million over two years).
Dr Lynham said only the transport scheme would be available to all councils: the other three funds were quarantined to regional local governments.
“Building our Regions particularly will focus on resource-producing communities and will provide an opportunity to address any impacts of resource sector growth in those communities,” he said.
Mount Isa and Cloncurry councils will be eligible for the Royalties for Resource Producing Communities Fund of $55 million over two years.
Councils eligible for the Royalties for Resource Producing Communities Fund: Aurukun, Banana, Barcaldine, Burke, Carpentaria, Central Highlands, Charters Towers, Cloncurry, Isaac, Mapoon, Maranoa, McKinlay, Mount Isa, Napranum, North Burnett, Quilpie, Western Downs, Whitsunday.
Councils eligible for the Remote Communities Infrastructure Fund: Balonne, Barcoo, Blackall-Tambo, Boulia, Bulloo, Cook, Croydon, Diamantina, Doomadgee, Etheridge, Flinders, Hope Vale, Kowanyama, Lockhart River, Longreach, Mornington, Murweh,Northern Peninsula, Paroo, Pormpuraaw, Richmond, Torres, Torres Strait Island, Winton, Woorabinda, Wujal Wujal.
