The fortnightly publication, which has served Queensland for the last decade and a half, is in danger of closing unless it can raise $20,000 by June 1.

As of two days before the deadline, a crowd funding campaign had raised less than half.

Editor Toby Longhurst said the loss of the publication would mean another voice silenced.

"While the mainstream media outlets are good at covering some of the bigger issues such as marriage equality, and the gay panic defence, there remains a large array of important LGBTI issues that simply would not receive any coverage in Queensland without QNews," he said.

"Issues such as LGBTI specific health and mental health issues, HIV prevention and treatment, LGBTI sexual health, coming out, discrimination, equal age of consent, same-sex parenting, LGBT adoption and fostering, transgender issues, and the extremely high rates of LGBTI suicide and domestic violence.

"We also provide an important connection with many people living in regional and remote areas where we know that LGBTI isolation and suicide remains prevalent.

"...Not everybody has access to a private computer or a smart phone to access our resources online, hence the print distribution is vitally important."

The past year had hit the publication hard, Mr Longhurst said, with increased postage and print costs taking their toll. While 20 people come together to put the magazine out every second Friday, most are volunteers.

"The good news is that we have made changes and believe that we now have a business model and digital platform that will not only allow us to survive, but to really thrive," he said.

"What we need right now is help to get us over a hurdle to allow us to continue being a strong voice for our LGBTI community."

Mr Longhurst said the loss of the publication would impact more than just the LGBTI community, citing the magazine's establishment of the Big Gay Day in Brisbane, sponsorship and partnership with The Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention for the nation's largest LGBT suicide study.

"The May 31 date is extremely important as this is when the Pozible campaign ends," Mr Longhurst said.

"If we do not make the target amount, then all pledges will be cancelled and we will receive nothing.

"We really need people to get behind this and not just make a pledge today, but to also share the campaign with their friends.

"This publication really is unique, working with more than 120 community groups. To lose it would be a very big loss."
