South east Queenslanders will experience some of the last warm weather of the season this weekend, with temperatures set to hover between 25 and 27 degrees, with the mercury dropping by about 10 points with the sun set.

But come Monday, you're going to need a bigger blanket.

"There is certainly a cold front moving through on Monday," Bureau of Meteorology forecaster David Bernard said.

"There might be a little bit of weather with it, before we move back into those dry south westerly or southerly winds."

That will see Tuesday drop to about 20 degrees across the south-east, with the night just inching over 10 degrees.

Wednesday night will see single digit temperatures, with a prediction of 8 degrees and a low 20s day.

The warmer weather, which has seen cardigans worn as a nod to the season more than necessity, has been a result of clear skies and westerly winds bringing central Queensland's heat to the coast.

From Monday the winds will shift to bring cooler air masses from the southern states. The drop in temperature should only last a week or so before it begins to slightly warm up again.

"Every winter is a little bit different," Mr Bernard said.

"July is usually the best chance to get those really cool nights, but every winter is different."
