Greyhound trainers and animal welfare groups have urged the Palaszczuk Government to adopt all of the recommendations from the greyhound inquiry, handed down on Monday.

The establishment of an independent integrity body and closer tracking of greyhounds from birth to death were among 15 recommendations put forward by Alan MacSporran, QC.

Ray Cole has trained greyhounds for almost a decade, in three different states, and said Monday's report was essential for the industry moving forward.

"The greyhound industry has never been in a better position," he said.

"I don't think greyhound racing in Queensland could be in better shape. Animal Liberation Queensland and Four Corners should be thanked big time.

"The onus is now on Racing Queensland to pick up their act."

Mr Cole, who also has strong affiliations with animal welfare groups, said the last six weeks had proven a major wake up call for greyhound racing.

"I think the big message out of all of this in the industry...is if you continue this practice you will get caught," he said.

Aspley greyhound trainer and owner Brenton Wilson said the industry could only regain public faith if all of the recommendations were adopted.

"This is where the industry has needed to go for the past decade with regard to integrity and compliance," he said.

"If you want to get back people's trust of racing industry then you need to follow through with the whole report."

Animal welfare groups

One of the key findings of the report was the high "wastage" among greyhounds, with 76 per cent of greyhounds dying closely after their racing retirement.

Adoption group Friends of the Hound founder and president Lisa White said while the recommendations were a positive step for the industry, it would take time to see the effect of any proposed changes.

"Our biggest concern has always been the number of dogs bred and routinely killed," she said.

"Yes, the recommendations are looking positive but we'll wait and see how this affects the welfare.

"Are the recommendations going to be enough to stop the routine killing of dogs for gambling?

"Our stance is that racing should end.

"We don't want to see dogs exploited and killed for a gambling industry."

Animal Liberation Queensland president Chay Neal echoed Ms White's comments.

"I mean some of the allegations and the submissions were more shocking than we could have imagined.

"I think it's hard to see how the industry can be fixed and if they tried to, how many more abuses will occur before the change actually happens."

RSPCA Queensland CEO Mark Townend stopped short of calling for an end to greyhound racing but supported the findings from the report.

"It's not up to me (what is adopted) but it will improve the welfare," he said.

"Normal Australians wouldn't accept the type of industry that does this."

"The world could survive without greyhound racing, if the cabinet decided that, but realistically most probably they will adopt the recommendations of the commissioner.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will deliver her response to the report in parliament on Tuesday.

Racing Queensland released a statement on Monday afternoon, welcoming the report's findings.

Queensland All Codes Racing Industry Board Chairman Kevin Dixon said Racing Queensland supported the recommendation to separate integrity and commercial operations in future.

"Now the report has been handed down, we look forward to working closely with the State Government to implement its actions," he said.
