Late Thursday afternoon, emergency services attended the fire at a home in Delacour Drive at Pioneer.
Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene, where fire crews extinguished the blaze at about 3.30pm.
The house was unoccupied and nobody was injured.
Police at the scene declined immediate comment.
The house belonged to mine control operator Phil Webber and had been his home for three years.
Mr Webber said he received calls at work from two neighbours that the home with his two dogs was ablaze. He returned to rescue one animal and suspected a neighbour had rescued the other.
Mr Webber, who has lived in the Isa for 20 years, is originally from the Gold Coast.
Area fire brigade commander Ross Mutzelburg said when the crew attended the blaze was alight, causing heat and smoke damage to the structure's roof, and insides of the rear of the house.
Mr Mutzelberg said the crew would ensure the fire was extinguished and remains dampened down before leaving on Thursday afternoon.
On Friday, an investigator would fly from Townsville to examine the debris to determine the fire's cause.
Mr Webber, who is celebrating his birthday on Friday, would spend Thursday night with his neighbours.
He said he was unsure of his immediate plans, and would wait until events "became clearer" before making definitive ones.
He was unsure of the blaze's cause. A number of electrical items were active when Mr Webber left for work in the morning, such as the fridge and TV.
